After Midnight

 Entry 1.  1:53 a.m.

We go to the Central Cinema each year for the Christmas Sing-a-Long. It is a family affair. We typically have between 15 and 20 people there, and have had more, likely.  Filled with mostly videos from the 1980s, it is a roaring good time.  But we didn't go last year, and this year we all bought tickets excited to restart the tradition.  And then.  .   ..fucking omicron. At least it isn't omega.  So, we are having a few family members over to do the Sing-a-Long later this week.

With regard to omicron, I have been to a restaurant, shopping, and took the kids to the movies today, because I have some sort of death wish.  No more. I am not going out again, and want people who come into the house to be tested.  Jenny won't put up with that last measure, I will guess. But she cannot have a booster. She has already been off chemotherapy since November 18--I asked her tonight.  Her meds are due tomorrow, they are being shipped by the Kaiser pharmacy.  She will need to consult with Picozzi after she receives the meds to determine when to start.  Still, she is lucky. She ignores precautions for the first few months, refused to follow the standard protocol. She thought I was trying to prevent her from seeing pinché whenever I would urge her and plead with her to follow the CDC guidelines, e.g. limiting contacts to immediate family and maybe a pod of a couple  friends; don't spend time in confined spaces, like the cab of a car. Really, I didn't want Leiney or Abby to get the virus, nor am I interested in getting it.

For whatever reason, when summer arrived she started to get much more serious about it, not as serious as I would like, she still went out and goes out all the time. Immunization hasn't prevented the spread of the virus, in fact vaccinated people are contracting the virus almost as much as the unvaxxed.

I don't feel comfortable seeing friends, given her propensity to visit with people. Picking a random day, today for example, she left with a friend she hasn't seen in months, who entered our home wearing a mask, but shit oh dear, this variant is extremely transmissible.  They went out to coffee. Then, Karina drove Jenny to her sister's house and Jenny spent the balance of the day there, until 5ish.  A friend came to bring us food, was invited in, and stayed and chatted for a good 20 minutes, sans mask.

At 6:45, Jenny got in her car and drove to Columbia City to meet a friend at a coffee shop.  That is today.  Tomorrow begins with an in-person book club meeting, and goes from there.

The kicker is, she can't get the booster and has no immune system because of the chemo.

Mind you, she can barely walk, and I am not exaggerating.  She is run down and not getting her energy back. While out with her friend for dinner, she reported to me in a phone call that she threw up 5x at the restaurant. Sigh.
