Under Pressure

Entry 1.    11:32 a.m. Willow gave me a wild ride this morning at 7:00, trying to bum rush a neighbor getting into his car. I know her very well now, and had hold of her fur faster than she could react, and soon after grabbed her harness.  In the kerfuffle of wrangling her, I dropped my phone in the grass. I didn't know this at the time, but only realized in an hour later. The best part about that is my phone lay in the grass where I dropped it as the rain fell-it had been falling all morning, why stop on my phone's account?  I put it in rice, at Jenny's suggestion. Jenny left with Moni for chemo about the same time I tried to dry out my phone.  I went to work and forgot about my personal cell. Just after 10, my work cell rings, it's Jenny on the phone, calling to tell me her blood pressure 70/30 was so low they were transferring her to the ER.  Moni took Jenny here, but left to go to an appt around 10. Jeanne, Jenny's escort home, was cancelled.  I a...

Man Plans And God Laughs

Entry 1.    1:32 a m. Jenny and Jeanne speaking in hushed whispers yesterday, discussing (health permitting), a foray to see el pinché. I was in the office upstairs as they sat in the living room. They had no idea I could hear them, although why I don't know. They are children of the 80s . What am I to make of this? It gets better--not in the Dan Savage manner--but in the "if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all" way.  The organizers of the "babysitters" as Jenny refers to them, has Jennifer Murray slated to come over our house tomorrow today to care for Jenny.  I hadn't bothered to read the schedule, why would I? Other than Jenny's sisters and my sister Jane, anyone else coming over will likely not be welcomed with open arms by me.  I won't make a scene, I don't think.  But I am rather near the end of my tether with these accommodating friends.

With How Sad Steps, O Moon, Thou Climb'st The Skies

Entry 1     9:56 a.m. That Jenny is dying and having an affair and refusing to stop (or now even acknowledge or admit it), and is angry that I have facts that contradict her claims and her lies, but has no real contrition for the behavior, these are all hard things.  It is tough enough to have to deal with just those things. That she alternates between denial and acceptance is understandable, most of us would likely be there--I can't see any reason I wouldn't be wrestling with that every day.  But the madness of the illness and naked manipulation that she uses in an attempt to ply compliance to her demands is, well, remarkable. It is shameless.   Just after she returned from the hospital, one night at bedtime, she was wracked with pain. It was the kind of pain that makes you act like someone has run an andiron through your right eye and prodded it out your left ear. She had had her regular pain meds, we had worked through the rescue pain meds, a ...

Empathy For The Bedeviled

Entry 1   2:13 p.m. Jenny's friend Jeanne, who apparently thinks I am terrible to Jenny, (I've read the texts) is here visiting. I have always liked her.  She is one of the therapist friends who was giving Jenny advice after I found out about the affair.

Slingblade

Entry 1     1:49 p.m. I am taking care of the dogs, have emptied and refilled the dishwasher, managed to dress myself and packed 3 boxes, all with my arm in a sling. I tried to pack with two arms  but that was stoopid.  I absolutely love all the physical chicanery y body has played on me these last few months.  The mind-body connection is real. We hired movers. Nevertheless, we are so excited Jenny has invited people to come move boxes over between the time we close and the day of the move.  I even rented a van for a few days before moving to transport boxes.  With my arm and shoulder malfunctioning, and a possible heart problem, well, I am not sure what I should and shouldn't be doing, other than changing my diet completely. Having a new puppy has been a great occupier of my time. I have potty trained her, taught her to sit. If there were ever a custody battle, I'm the primary, hahahaha.  It thrills me. I haven't had a puppy since I wa...
