The First Thursday in March

Image
A year ago, on the first Thursday of March, Leiney, my sister Jane and I were lying in the bed that abutted Jenny's hospital bed set up in the master bedroom. Jenny hadn't been conscious in days. In fact, she had very much been in the active stages of dying. We were facing her and chit chatting. As you sit next someone in the throes of death, someone taking days to die and who is unconscious, and suffering, fear dissipates. Compassion and love fill your heart. I remember the day before, I sat alone with her and sang every song I could remember that meant so much to the two of us, that she loved so much, that we loved so much.  On that Thursday, none of the three of us could leave Jenny's side. Some days ago, before she lost her faculties, she had seen her dead mother and father standing in the room, a common happening as you near death. Fish breathing, which had been going on a few days before and is another feature of impending death, had passed, and now, she was taking a ...

It's The Holiday Season

Das Gravy Boot. Technical Difficulties, Pls Stand By. Entry 3.    4:40 Glitchy app today. I have posted 3x and the first two went *poof.*  Jenny is not doing well. She ate a full meal last night, but lost it all later.  Today, she has been barely functional. I did get her to Macy's Furniture Store, but it was all she could do to walk the store. She has been in repose the rest of the day. We went to Macy's trying to find a sideboard.  We looked elsewhere, but eventually settled on Ikea--it was an emergency. Our house does not have space to display all of our Christmas gifts. Ikea had one we could order and pick up curbside. Nothing special, but it will do in a pinch..  We have 10 bins, and several boxes of things, 31 years of accumulated junk. Given Jenny's ill-health, everything and everyone is going all-out to make this holiday memorable. It's more for the kids than Jenny, if you think about it. So Abby, in her stubbornness and lack of faith in my mechanic...

Omi Is Missed

Entry 1.    8:21 a.m. Jenny, who has taken the dogs at night in preparation of my backpacking trip, somehow managed to keep them placated until 7:30. Down in my Skinner box of a bedroom, I woke up at 6:00, around the time the dogs (on average) like to wake me.   Willow rang the bells hanging from the front door to go outside, the second time in the last few days. Progress grinds slowly with this one, but we are making headway.
