Dog Days

Yesterday The old television in the garage, now mounted on the wall (thanks, Matt) is a great addition to the home gym. My Bowflex treadmill would have me pay 20 bucks a month to get access to trainers, youtube, and to stream the pay services for which I already pay. The purpose of building the home gym was to avoid the $20 a month gym cost. With the TV up and wifi capable, this morning I ran with a video of a rather nondescript tropical beach in front of me. Afterward, I used a youtube trainer to help me through my weight routine. This is really delicious having this space. I got rid of Jenny's bike yesterday, which had been on a trainer, as I am replacing it with a stationary bike. By the fall, I expect my garage will be fully whipped into shape. It's so much better, thanks to Matt, my handyman, and the negentropy he has introduced into my otherwise rather disordered life.  Sunday 6:12 a.m. It is almost quiet here, a rare occasion given my proximity to the airport and the hig...

Man Plans And God Laughs

Entry 1.    1:32 a m. Jenny and Jeanne speaking in hushed whispers yesterday, discussing (health permitting), a foray to see el pinché. I was in the office upstairs as they sat in the living room. They had no idea I could hear them, although why I don't know. They are children of the 80s . What am I to make of this? It gets better--not in the Dan Savage manner--but in the "if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all" way.  The organizers of the "babysitters" as Jenny refers to them, has Jennifer Murray slated to come over our house tomorrow today to care for Jenny.  I hadn't bothered to read the schedule, why would I? Other than Jenny's sisters and my sister Jane, anyone else coming over will likely not be welcomed with open arms by me.  I won't make a scene, I don't think.  But I am rather near the end of my tether with these accommodating friends.

Brunch-a-Bunch

Entry 1    3:17 p.m. My family is coming to Sunday brunch every other week. Jane, Mike, Sarah and Hanna came today. Halloween is magic again with a 5 year old among us.  My sister and niece brought the entrees.  I went to Bakery Nouveau, yes there is one nearby, and got pastries.  Too. Many. Pastries. I am not sure if I am being callous, but with only adults at the table, I discussed the visit to the UW Liver Tumor Clinic with the assembled. I described them as saying they have nothing else to offer and noted they are much clearer about the state of Jenny's disease than VM. Jenny started sobbing. My sister asked, and rightly so, whether Jenny wants to know more clearly what is going on.  It's a fair question. I want her to understand. But, am I putting my needs in front of hers? She has been sobbing off and on ever since.
