Dog Days

Yesterday The old television in the garage, now mounted on the wall (thanks, Matt) is a great addition to the home gym. My Bowflex treadmill would have me pay 20 bucks a month to get access to trainers, youtube, and to stream the pay services for which I already pay. The purpose of building the home gym was to avoid the $20 a month gym cost. With the TV up and wifi capable, this morning I ran with a video of a rather nondescript tropical beach in front of me. Afterward, I used a youtube trainer to help me through my weight routine. This is really delicious having this space. I got rid of Jenny's bike yesterday, which had been on a trainer, as I am replacing it with a stationary bike. By the fall, I expect my garage will be fully whipped into shape. It's so much better, thanks to Matt, my handyman, and the negentropy he has introduced into my otherwise rather disordered life.  Sunday 6:12 a.m. It is almost quiet here, a rare occasion given my proximity to the airport and the hig...

Life Imitating "Art?"

Entry 1 The morning workout was a struggle,  but not because I was too tired. I should have known something weird was going on when I went outside, and had to restart the treadmill to get the video screen to turn on. After the reboot, I connected my phone via bluetooth to the machine and set my watch to treadmill. I selected the workout settings on the treadmill and the free video that makes it seem like I am strolling somewhere beautiful. I started the belt, and began walking. I slowly increased my speed. I didn't put on the rip cord, because the clip is broken, and I have very robust arteries currently. As I was enjoying the French Riviera and as Christina Aguilera was thanking me in song and verse for making her a fighter, things started to go sideways. The Bowflex speaker stopped working and my watch died. In the next instant, the treadmill, as if it were an amp on This is Spinal Tap, went to 11. Immediately. I did my best imitation of the Six Million Dollar Man, as I fumbled f...

The Weight or I'd Rather Be Drinking a Cuba Libre

I went to my GP this morning and can truthfully attest I have lost 7.44 lbs . I wasn't trying. I mean, I have been eating more healthily and getting some exercise. I have to believe its a medication I am taking, Jardiance, that pushed most of  that spare tire off of my belly. I lost 4% of my body weight. I wasn't expecting to lose any. Not all people respond to Jardiance with weight loss.  I also got a couple of vaccines today. My second shingles vaccine and another COVID booster. With how much I have won in the genetic lottery, you can bet I needed another booster. I think its my third, but it could be my fourth. I dunno anymore. I wouldn't be so worried, but Leiney's Jared just flew to Idaho and came down with COVID two days later. Anyway, I got two shots, one in each arm, and it is a bit discomfiting, and uncomfortable, coupled with my sore shoulders. I'd say getting old sucks, but this is all on me, and I am doing something to make these things better, finally. ...

Big City Turn Me Loose and Set Me Free

Entry 1     10:24 p.m. Processes and mechanisms associated with cancer-associated cachexia Cachexia, also known as wasting disease, is a condition that is common among cancer patients, and is often what kills you before the cancer itself. I've written about it here before. Jenny weighed 147 lbs. last night, which seems to be a stable weight. She is so thin and gaunt it is incredible. But, sans chemo--its been four weeks, she seems more robust. She can't stand for long periods of time, she can't walk for very many feet without risking collapse, but she has stopped the freefall.  Her meds still haven't arrived from wherever they are being shipped from, and Christ only knows what the cancer is up to inside her body.   Yesterday, a family friend brought over a treadmill for Jenny to use in her battle against cachexia. Cachexia weight loss eliminates lean muscle mass and the good fat in your body, rendering you weak and without energy reserves.  ...
