Sleep, Sweet Slumber, Come At Last

 Entry 1    9:41 p.m.

What a dayOur huge living room windows that look out on the wooded portion of our property were captivating with the hundreds of bright yellow maple leaves moving in the air like dancers in the windstorm. At times it almost seemed like there was nothing out there except the drifting leaves. What a great place to live.

I got to spend a lot of time with Leiney  and Abby at alternate times today. Leiney and I are watching her favorite YouTube political analyst and laughing a lot. Abby and I went and did a little shopping at the grocery store this evening. Then around 8 she announced its pajama day tomorrow and she needed to go buy pajamas at Target.  So, I dutifully accompanied her, keeping my eyes shut most of the drive there and back. Riding with your 16 year old is not for the faint of heart.

Jenny was debilitated much of the day. She was awake in the night with stomach problems after taking her night time meds and a full Xanax to sleep. She came downstairs bleary-eyed this morning and in great discomfort. She is having pain in her hip, and it hasn't gone away. Don't be surprised to learn that I read about this problem in a journal. It is not an uncommon problem arising from PDAC, although it isn't clear to me why. I suspect it is the pressure the tumor puts on the bundle of nerves that are adjacent to the pancreas. She slept for hours this afternoon, which is unusual, but not surprising given the night she had.

As I was heading to bed, Jenny called me in to say she thinks she has appendicitis, and we need to go to the ER. I am no medical doctor, so who knows.  She began reading the

symptoms. They didn't match. She was looking at her phone, I assumed at WebMD, she said she should stand on her toes and jump up and down. If it causes pain, then its appendicitis. She tried it, and jumped up and down several times. No pain. We decided if the pain keeps her awake for the next hour we will go to hospital. If she falls asleep, however, and the pain persists in the morning, we will go in then.

Soon thereafter, my sister texted me to ask if Jenny was ok.  Weird timing, maybe just checking in to see how she is doing after chemo. Turns out, I learned from Jane, Jenny posted on FB seeking the signs and symptoms of appendicitis.

I was up at 2:45 a.m. this morning, thirsty like I had cotton mouth from smoking pot. I was so parched I had to go downstairs to get something to slake my thirst. That hasn't happened before to me, that I can remember. Straight-away, after the water, I went back to bed and slept until 7 a.m. The dogs havent slept that late in recent memory, but still i would have slept longer but for their bodily needs. I thought it might be a good omen for the day, their sleeping in, that is. One can always hope.
