Heaven Can Wait

 Entry 1.    9:09 a.m.

Apparently, while I was out yesterday, Willow escaped the yard, as I have been worried about for some time.  She ran up about 4 blocks and fortunately did not get to a busy road before they managed to trick her into getting back home. The regular daily routine is to let her run out in the yard, sans leash, early in the morning, trusting the invisible fence will keep her in.  Ironically, when they chased her back to the house, they had to struggle to get her to cross the invisible fence line.  They warned us, if she is motivated she will cross it. They also said that problem is rare.  We need them to crank up the feedback on the collar, now that she is horse-sized.  Anyway, I went into the yard with them this morning, which is where the above shot was taken.  Standing in hoar frost isnt something I've done in a long time.  Willow began looking up and out of the yard, the first sign she may test the defenses, so I quickly lured her back into the house. Problem averted.

Today's goal is to get Jenny out for a walk around a park with her walker.  Wish us luck!

Entry 2   7:34 p.m.

A day of success. I got Jenny to a nearby park for a walk.  We took the rollator. It was hard, soul crushing, inspiring and tender. The sun was out, but it was cold. A few months ago, Jenny walked

A brief stop on our trip.
through this park with purpose. Today, she was purposeful, weak but driven. We went much further than I thought we would. I got nervous when we came to a long slope downward, not a hill much as a gentle incline. She did well.

This week Peter C., a friend of Jenny's we have known since our days in NYC, who left his wife when we knew him for another woman that he has now just divorced. Peter loves Jenny very much. He will be sleeping in my room, I will take the couch. Also, Jenny's best friend is spending the weekend with us, coming in from Rhode Island. She and her husband, both 50 and lifelong residents of Kirkland, moved to Providence just a few months ago.  He took a job at Brown, and she came with him, like they are a team or something. I can only imagine how that works.

It will be a busy week.

Jenny is doing pretty well, all the way around. She has adjusted well to the meds, but I still recommended against driving today, after she suggested driving to the park. I suggested she check in with her doctor first, and said she is so medicated, I don't think she should be driving.  I have also made it clear to both of the girls not to get in any car in which her mother is at the wheel.  It is going to happen, she has more energy, if not muscle mass or constitution, leading her to believe driving is a great thing. I didn't think her doctor was right that she should be able to drive on Percocet, but I do not believe that he will say it's a good idea if she is wearing the fentanyl patch and high doses oxycodone every four hours. Also, the pain is still there's even after the 2 nerve block procedures and drugs she is prescribed.
